Reiki was rediscovered in Japan in the mid-nineteenth century by Japanese scholar, Dr. Mikao Usui (pictured).

After working with the formula found in ancient sutras and perfecting them through his meditation, Usui then passed on his work to others. One of these students was Japanese Dr. Chujiro Hyashi who continued the Reiki tradition intact, never changing the symbols in any way.

The original Seven Reiki symbols are not from any human language nor do they resemble any particular human language whatsoever. The symbols are neither traditional Japanese, Kanji nor are they a modern language. A student receives three of these symbols to work with in the second degree level, the symbols must be kept completely intact and in their true form for them to be 100% effective.The other four are given when a student feels guided to progress to the higher levels.

Dr.Hyashi (pictured) passed the complete formula onto an
Hawaiian female patient HawayoTakata who,
in the late 1930's was very ill and expected to die.
Mrs. Takata found herself healed in eight months through Reiki treatments.

She then persuaded Hyashi to teach her the technique and before she made her transition (some fifty years later in 1980)
Hawayo Takata initiated many other masters.

At a formal reception of over two hundred invited guests Hawayo Takata (pictured)
announced Dr. Barbara Ray as her successor to the complete seven degree system of Reiki.

For the next thirty years Hawayo Takata practised and taught Reiki mainly on the Hawaiian Islands.
It was not until she was in her seventies that Mrs Takata felt it was time to instruct people as Reiki teachers.
She had trained twenty-two Reiki teachers altogether, most of whom were trained up to the first teacher level, Reiki 3B, to attune students to Reiki levels 1 & 2 only and only one of whom, Dr Barbara Weber Ray, was trained to the highest teacher level, Reiki 7B.
Barbara Ray was the only one of Hawayo Takata’s students who was empowered to make other teachers and teach the complete Seven Level Reiki system. Gary Samer trained with Dr Ray,
then passed on the entire system to Dez Dalton in December 2000, who is now a Reiki Grand Master Teacher.

Dez Dalton completed his first Reiki 3B Teacher Training course of the Seven Degree Level Usui System of Universal Energy in 1998, fulfilling all requirements for certification as a Reiki Master Teacher authorised in the Instruction and Attunements of First and Second Degree Reiki. In the year 2000 he completed the accreditation of the 5B Advanced and the 7B Grand Master Teacher levels authorising him to instruct and initiate teachers to permanently align students to the complete system of Reiki and carry on teaching the unique and original source of Reiki, the Seven Level System throughtout Australia.
